Neuroma Treatment

A neuroma is a painful condition often described as a burning, tingling, or shooting pain in the ball of the foot, typically radiating toward the third and fourth toes. Also referred to as a pinched nerve or nerve tumor, this condition is caused by the thickening of nerve tissue due to chronic pressure or irritation. At Podiatry International, our goal is to relieve this discomfort through accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.

The most common type is Morton’s Neuroma, which occurs when the nerve between the metatarsal bones becomes compressed or inflamed. Activities that cause repetitive stress to the forefoot, combined with tight or narrow footwear, can worsen the condition. Without proper care, the nerve becomes increasingly enlarged and painful.

What You Can Do

  • Switch to low-heeled, supportive shoes with a wide toe box
  • Avoid high-impact activities that put stress on the ball of the foot
  • Use ice packs to help reduce inflammation
  • Rest your feet and limit activities that aggravate pain

What can you do?

  • Change to shoes with lower heels
  • Wear supportive shoes with a roomy toe box
  • Soak and ice your feet for temporary relief

What Your Podiatrist at Podiatry International Can Do

  • Perform a comprehensive foot exam and evaluate your symptoms
  • Order imaging tests (X-ray, MRI, CT, or ultrasound) to rule out other conditions
  • Recommend padding, taping, or shoe modifications
  • Prescribe custom orthotics to relieve pressure on the nerve
  • Administer anti-inflammatory medications or corticosteroid injections
  • If conservative treatment fails, perform surgical removal of the neuroma
